Resolved Question: How can you really tell if you're getting the best airfare rate?
All the discount sites say they have the best pricing, then you go to the airline's site and they say you'll not find any of their flights for less anywhere else (some even a double the difference back offer). Is there anyway you can truly guarantee you've found the best rate? Any recommendations?

Resolved Question: Payment dilemma for vacation?
For our wedding gift, my parents gave me and my husband a week at their timeshare, where we can chose anywhere we want to go. We couldn't afford airfare or a rental car at the time, so we put it off for a later date. We will be going in October of this year as nice of a vacation. Now we've incurred problems paying for our airfare and rental car. We have every the money needed, no problem (we've been saving for 2 years). But our bank will only allow us to put $500/day on our debit card, and the total cost is way more than that. Our only credit card only has a $500 limit, and were not going to open a new one just for one vacation. So we have no real way to pay for it. My parents offered to let us use their credit card if we pay them the cash up front (which is no issue), but they refuse to let us use their cc number online. Over the phone or through a travel agent is the only way they will do that (they are older, and there is no convincing them otherwise). They keep telling us to go through their travel agent. She booked a trip for is several years ago, and we got royally screwed over on the rates (we paid the same amount we could have booked the nicest suite in the hotel for online for the crappiest rooms they had available). Needless to say, we do not want to repeat the experience. My parents have the money to have someone else do it for them, and don't have to worry about every penny. We do not have that luxury. So I guess my question is, is there any of the discount travel sites that will except my parents credit card when they will not be traveling, and can do it over the phone? Or any sites that will take direct transfers from a bank account (we can do that for more than $500 a day through the bank, but visa put the limit on the debit card)? Or just any other suggestions how to do this without paying the ridiculous fees of a travel agent?
Also, I don't need to hear about how we manage our money, or the fact we only have 1 low limit credit card. We do great financially, and could have a higher limit card, but don't care to have that nice of temptation. And as I said, we have every the money to cover the trip and then some,, but sadly, no one takes cash anymore. And as one final note, the resort is free, since it is a timeshare and my parents "gifted" us the week. every we have to pay is taxes, and if we use room service or resort amenities.

Resolved Question: Backpacking Europe...How Much Will This Cost Me?
Me and a buddy of mine are planning to backpack Europe next summer, in specific we want to look Belgium, the Netherlands, and if possible northern/western Germany. We are looking to spend 3-4 weeks there, most likely tardy July through early August. As we are young, needy college students, we want this trip to be as cost efficient as possible. We are currently planning on sticking with hostels and camping where possible. What would a reasonable cost to this trip including airfare and railway passes? I have heard discounts are available to people below 25, and students in some cases. We are planning on visiting many of the breweries in the region as well, beer being major motif of the trip.

Resolved Question: Brother's wedding in Hawaii?
My brother sent me an invitation to his wedding in Hawaii. I'm pretty much the only family he's got so I'd like to be there but there is NO WAY I can afford getting there. The wedding is taking place at this swanky hotel that costs $505 a night with some nice of discount he got for us, but the airfare is what's killing me. For me and my husband to go it's going to cost $1250 RT each for coach. I can't afford that. Even if I leave my husband at home and go alone, I still can't afford that!
I feel bad because every of his friends (who happen to be super wealthy) are going and it's going to look horrible if his only family member isn't showing up but people who barely know him, like this one guy he went to med school with for 3 months, is going to be there.
Should I use a credit card to pay for this or what?
I've hinted to my brother many many times that I can't afford that nice of trip.

Resolved Question: Cost of a trip to Europe for a teenager?
Facts about the trip:
- heavily discounted airfare/hotel prices (like, $100 round-trip ticket and $20 hotel rooms)
- plan to go for one month, with one to two friends
- want to go from London to Paris to Rome, so Metro tickets need to be factored in (but if it's not worth it, I would be fine just staying in England)
- will be generally frugal but still want to like myself
What's a good benchmark price for how much I need to keep up?
To Brian - Thanks so much! I accidentally voted you down when I meant to vote you up. My bad. :D

Resolved Question: Alaskan cruise in 2 years. How much would you estimate?
My sister and I are thinking about taking an Alaskan cruise in the summer of 2012. We need to keep up for it so we need an approximate price point including a couple of excursions. I don't need to receive off at every port to take a tour, but a few.
Forget airfare. Forget today's discounts that won't be there tomorrow. Please offer a general price with some justification plus any tips that you can think of. We just need to figure out how much we should be saving each month. I'm sure we could both arrive up with the little extra at the end since everything is more than you thought it would be, but where should we start?
Thanks!

Resolved Question: Bridal Show winning - all inclusive honeymoon by Simplicity Gourmet - Is this something I should avoid?
I attended a bridal show on sunday and registered at the Pink Apron Simplicity Gourmet booth for a free every inclusive honeymoon. I was called last night stating that I won a gift package - 2 night 3 day every inclusive honeymoon to my choice of costa rica, dominican republic or mexico. I also receive 2 his and her embroidered aprons and 20% off Invitations thank you notes and wedding accessories. They asked that I attend a cooking preview at a local hotel for 90 min. and they stated that I dont have to purchase there product and still keep my vacation. I was skeptical that this is a scam and so i researched about it on the net. Lots of people say dont go its a scam and cease at the telephone call or receive the call but dont attend the show. Some people go through with the whole thing and go on the vacation - say every they had to pay were taxes, airfare and a reservation fee. If this is like a discounted honeymoon im interested, but if these people are going to be an annoying part of my life even after the trip im not ( i dont want them contacting me afterwards ). I understand they are pushy like sales people are. I guess I just want to know if its a good idea to give it a shot?

Resolved Question: Does military receive discounts from airlines when called in?
My family is new to the army and we are planning our vacation out in 2010. The subject of airfare was brought up in a conversation with a neighbor. She told me that I should never buy my tickets online. I am supposed to have my husband call in to the airline, and they will give him a very good discount because he is military. I would ask my neighbor again to give me more exact information on the subject, but she moved. My questions are: Is it just my husband or the whole family? Does it apply to vacations with proof that he has the approved paperwork to take leave? Is there some place on our base in which I could receive discount flight tickets?

I'm in phoenix arizona trying to receive to Vientiane, Laos. It seems like there are a lot of different routes to take to receive to the final destination, and I just want to receive some advice from people with some travel experience.

Thanks for the advice!

Resolved Question: Can you give advice for traveling to Disney this June?
My daughter is in a dance competition and the competition hotel is the Dolphin in Orlando for 5 days 6/30-7/4, but its full so we have the option of staying at the Swan or a hotel in walking distance. I've been to Disney twice before but Im not familiar with these hotels. The discounted rate for the Swan is $149/night and airfare is around $500.00 for the 2 of us. I dont have much money due to the economy so am considering driving or maybe paying something each month toward the hotel since its the biggest expense.
Does anyone have any HELPFUL advice please?? My daughter is so excited to go to Nationals with her dance team but Im wincing from the costs. Thanks!
As far as driving, I live in Chicago so its a 20 hr steer and I have driven before but Im concerned about the time I'll have off from work.
